Special Operations Command chief: Afghans need US troops to counter Taliban | Military Times

According to Special Operations Command Gen. Richard Clarke, Afghanistan’s military forces need U.S. assistance to counter the Taliban successfully. The statement was made amid the on-going discussion over whether American forces should leave or stay in Afghanistan beyond May 1st. Clarke also reiterated other military leaders’ concerns that the Taliban didn’t really fulfill its commitment to reduce violence in Afghanistan. Instead, the Taliban have made deliberate decisions to increase attacks that haven’t targeted the U.S. but focus on Afghans.
