To track and care for veterans who have been exposed to toxic substances, the Toxic Exposure in the American Military, or TEAM, Act has been brought to the Senate once again. The act mandates the Department of Veterans Affairs to improve healthcare and benefits of qualified military personnel. The act was passed in the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee in 2020 but did not receive a Senate floor voter. “We have an obligation to ensure that veterans who return home from war receive the care that they need and have earned,” stated co-sponsor Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-N.H.
