First flown in 1956, the Convair B-58 Hustler is America’s first operational supersonic strategic bomber. But it was only in 1960 that the B-58 entered service with the Strategic Air Command due to several hiccups. In addition, the bomber wasn’t ready to stand alert until 1962, but soon enough, it provided a lot of help to the 43rd Bomb Wing. The plane can carry five nuclear bombs and has a top speed of Mach 2.2 at a high altitude at a maximum range of 4100 nautical miles.
