The struggle with insecurity in Nigeria’s northern regions continues despite claiming the lives of tens of thousands and displacing millions over the last few years. This has called President Muhammadu Buhari to change the military’s top brass by appointing new service chiefs. These new service chiefs are assigned to prioritize establishing Nigeria’s first Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC). One of the advantages of JSOC is that it unifies the chain of command by bringing together the expertise of elite SOFs across the various arms of Nigeria’s military.
