During World War II Marine Corps Raiders helped train operators for the Office of Strategic Services. Hank Weldon was a member of UDT-10, an underwater demolition team, and trained to conduct covert resistance, sabotage, and intelligence-gathering operations. He was sent on the first underwater recon mission of World War II on the island of Yap. He also completed numerous missions in the Philippines and Paula. He and other members of the OSS earned the Congressional Gold Medal in 2018, with Weldon as the surviving member of UDT-10.
