Marine receives Purple Heart 16 years after fighting in Fallujah with a bullet wound | Stars & Stripes

Marine Capt. Kevin Leishman, the soldier who fought despite having a gun wound in the streets of Fallujah, Iraq, 16 years ago, has finally received his Purple Heart award. Leishman was a staff sergeant back then. Based on his story, he has in the middle of putting down the fire with his M240 machine gun when a bullet landed in the muscle of his right forearm, leaving him with no choice but to continue fighting with an injured hand. Leishman had deployed to Iraq in May 2004 with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
