Established in 1964 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the Special Forces Association (SFA) is a non-profit fraternal organization helping current and retired U.S. Army Special Forces soldiers. “Fort Bragg, NC is an ideal location for the SFA as it is home to one of the largest military installations in the world. SFA has a total of 84 chapters in different countries, including the United States, Philippines, Panama, Okinawa, Thailand, Germany, and South Korea.
Since its founding, the SFA–specifically Chapter 1-18–has served as a healing place for veterans and has also assisted citizens in Fort Bragg and Fayetteville areas. The association hasn’t only helped the soldiers but has supported their families as well.
Unfortunately, SFA Chapter 1-18 lost its Teamhouse to Hurricane Matthew in 2017. They were able to save 70-75% of the memorabilia collected over the past 50 years, but the tragedy and accumulating rent and storage expenses have decreased their ability to support the local communities.
In order to restore normal operations and support, the SFA has moved into a property owned by a Special Forces retiree with the option of renting indefinitely or purchasing it outright. While the SFA would prefer to purchase the promising property, which boasts a total of 5 structures on 64 acres, they cannot currently afford it.”
In purchasing the property, the Chapter would be better positioned to care for Special Forces soldiers and their families. This will also make it possible for the Chapter to better assist the Fort Bragg and Fayetteville areas. Specifically, its income will be used in supporting events focused on military families and single soldiers, assisting local food banks, working with other benevolent organizations, increasing their scholarship program, and taking care of Chapter family members in their times of need.
To make this level of support possible, Christopher Wilkerson has organized a fundraiser and the Chapter needs your help. Your donation of any amount will allow the SFA to provide a home for soldiers and other individuals and fund additional community outreach.
