US goes one year without a combat death in Afghanistan as Taliban warn against reneging on peace deal | Stars & Stripes

In the Taliban-U.S. agreement, the U.S. is supposed to withdraw U.S.-led international forces from the country by May 2021, and on the other hand, the Taliban will stop attacking foreign troops and barring terrorist groups. After President Joe Biden took office last month, the Taliban are sending threats again as Washington opts to keep international forces in the country after a May withdrawal deadline. In a statement made by national security adviser Jake Sullivan, he said that national security adviser Jake Sullivan said the U.S. was taking a hard look at the extent to which the Taliban are complying.
