The U.S. Space Force has issued a new rank structure according to a memo signed Friday. The new rank structure is derived from the Air Force’s, with ranks ranging from second lieutenants to four-star generals. But instead of using E-1 through E-4 just like the Air Force, the Space Force is set to use specialist 1, specialist 2, specialist 3, and specialist 4 for junior enlisted ranks. Also, E-5s will not be called as staff sergeants, as the Air Force calls them, but they will be simply addressed as “sergeant.”
