In the late-stage clinical trial of the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, around 1500 volunteers were given the wrong dose because of a mistake in measurements. The volunteers weren’t even aware of it until they receive a letter about the dosing mishap. In the letter, the Pollard did not acknowledge the mistake; instead, they told the volunteers that they were trying to check the vaccine’s effectiveness in different doses. The Health Research Authority has acknowledged that the sudden change to the study design and the letter sent to participants were approved by one of its ethics committees.
