Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, companies have been releasing apologies left and right in response to delays, closures, and concerns. There has also been an uptick in apologies over the last several years, such as Pepsi, Dove, and Avon apologizing for advertisements that were insensitive to women and minorities. If your company needs to administer an apology, stay away from the overused “We missed the mark” and “Mistakes were made.” Instead, break the apology down into several parts; accept responsibility, admit the difficulty, explain what you learned, and state what you will do different in the future.
