U.S. Special Operations, together with law enforcement units, underwent specialized training to board enemy ships at sea. Specifically, they were trained to conduct Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) operations, which is considered one of the most challenging and most dangerous Maritime Operations. Historically, VBSS was exclusively for Navy SEALs, but nowadays Marine Riders, the Coast Guard’s Maritime Security Response Teams, and even Reconnaissance Marines have different levels of VBSS proficiency.
