After decades of researchers trying to find a way to quicky detect and diagnose TBI, the FDA has approved a rapid blood test. “A rapid test for TBI is a critical addition to our downrange capability to care for the brain health of our most important weapon system, the warfighter, and help maintain a high state of readiness across the Force,” stated Army Brig. Gen. Michael J. Talley. Over the last 20 years more than 400,000 troops sustained a TBI. The test is known as the “Abbott i-STAT Alinity TBI plasma assay” and detects two brain-specific protein markers that appear after a TBI incident.
