Pentagon to probe possible war crimes committed by troops downrange | Task & Purpose

Recent reports regarding special operations troops and the CIA have included possible war crimes. A memo was issued on January 25th, announcing that an “evaluation” has been launched to check out if CENTCOM and SOCOM are abiding by the Pentagon’s “law of war program.” The said memo is also meant to make sure that civilian contractors and troops are complying well with the laws governing armed conflicts of the U.S. military. While all of CENTCOM is under investigation, it will focus on U.S. Forces–Afghanistan and Combined Joint Task Force–Operation Inherent Resolve.
