There are several reports of current service members, veterans, and retirees having participated in the riots at the Capitol. Investigations have been launched and calls to use the Uniform Code of Military Justice to prosecute the offenders have been made. However, each group falls into a different category when it comes to UCMJ and military justice. For those who are currently serving, UCMJ applies. This does not apply to veterans who were discharged before reaching 20 years. Retirees are the most complicated group, with situations varying on how they retired.
