James Richardson, soldier in Merrill’s Marauders, dies at 99 | AP News

James Eubaun Richardson from Tennessee deployed in 1944 on a secret mission behind enemy lines in Japanese-occupied Burma. They traveled 1,000 miles to take over a Japanese-held airfield. Out of the 3,000 who started the journey, only 200 were left by the end of the mission. Richardson received the Congressional Gold Medal earlier this year along with eight other survivors.
