While in Afghanistan with the 5th Special Forces Group, Acting Defense Secretary Christopher C. Miller who was a major at the time, was in the first 200 special operations troops to land in country in December 2001. On December 5th, an errant Air Force munition struck the town of Tarin Kowt and killed US and Afghan troops, as well as wounded the Afghan President Hamid Karzai. Miller led a quick-reaction force into the region to support recovery and rescue missions. Now, he is back in Afghanistan for the first time since 2007 to visit deployed troops and get the inside scoop on the local situation. “We did not seek or desire the war the terrorists started,” Miller stated. “But we will end the war on our terms.”
