As the coronavirus pandemic began to spread and PPE was running low, small companies with AFWERX Small Business Innovation and Research contracts began turning to COVID-19 response. AFWERX personnel soon created a website to help with new response ideas and creations. The DOD later adopted the setup used by AFWERX to generate more contracts for PPE. During the first few weeks of the active site, AFWERX was able to support the procurement of $640 million worth of PPE items.
