Based out of the Naval Station in North Island, San Diego, the Firehawks are a niche asset in the Navy Air Forces’ Portfolio. This Naval Special Operations Unit is made of up mostly sailors and naval aviators. Their capabilities included firing weapons such as miniguns or AGM-114 missiles to providing close air support; as well as inserting or extracting operators for search rescue missions on land or at sea. As the HSC-85 special operations unit may sometimes seem like “flying chariots” for the Navy SEALS, they contain an organic helicopter support like no other. The video contained shows astounding footage of the HSC-85 Firehawks, from gunning ships at sea to fire-filled miniguns.
