Here’s why these Marines are now wearing the French Fourragere | Marine Corps Times

The symbolic French Fourragere was awarded to the U.S. Marines and Sailors with 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment (V18), 2d Marine Division during a ceremony on Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. The battalion was now under the command of the 6th Marine Regiment as part of the new force design changes. They were awarded since the Fourragere was awarded to the 5th and 6th Marines in 1918 for participation in World War I. Master Gunnery Sgt. Shawn E. Hughe said that the awarding of the French Fourragere and the history behind the braid is a reminder of what the Marine Corps stands for.
