Pentagon shakeup means more civilian oversight for special operations | Military Times

Over three years ago Congress mandated that the Defense Department raise the civilian head of special operations to the same level as a military service secretary. On Wednesday, Acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller signed a memo that now has the assistant defense secretary for special operations report directly to him, as the Army, Navy and Air Force secretaries do. Miller made this announcement while visiting Fort Bragg. Currently there is no confirmed official in this role.
