They say experience is a great teacher. However, we tend to be objective in interpreting the lessons from that experience. Emre Soyer and Robin Hogarth wrote in their book The Myth of Experience that “while experience still leads to learning, there is no guarantee that its lessons accurately represent the reality of a situation.” Recognizing that what we are experiencing may not be connected to reality is the first step. They explained in the book what are the right questions we should ask ourselves to direct us to correctly perceive these experiences.
