The last Jihadi superstar | War on the Rocks

Must Read

Anwar Awlaki was brought to Hegghammer’s attention in 2008 when he blogged about the persecution of Muslim’s around the world from his recent stay in a Yemeni prison. As a threat to the U.S and an extremely wanted terrorist, Awlaki’s actions go farther than writing in blogs about jail food. He has been known to be involved in many terrorist conspiracies in the United States. His influence has directly related to individuals attempting to make attacks in the West. Hegghammer also explains that he mistakes Awlaki’s status in the Muslim culture and did not realize how much appeal he had. In fact, he had so much that he is one of the most charismatic Al-Queda leaders after Bin Laden. Hegghammer hypothesizes that if Awlaki were still alive, he would have been the head leader of Al-Queda. He asks the next question; who will be the next terrorist leader with mass appeal?
