In celebration of Veterans Day in 2014, two of the last remaining children of Civil War veterans interviewed with National Geographic to share stories told by their fathers. They were in their early 90s at the time of the interviews. Fred Upham talked about his father’s service as a private in the 2nd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry when the North and South first clashed at the Battle of Bull Run and Iris Lee Gay Jordan who told the stories about his father as a Confederate soldier in the Civil war.
