Plastic-eating enzyme ‘cocktail’ heralds new hope for plastic waste | Science Daily

Plastic pollution is one of the most pressing environmental issues we face today. A group of scientists re-engineered the plastic-eating enzyme that can digest plastic. PETase breaks down polyethylene terephthalate (PET) back into its building blocks, creating an opportunity to recycle plastic infinitely. Mixing PETase with MHETase doubled the speed of PET breakdown increasing it further three times faster.
