For almost a mile they had to walk and fight enemies. They had lost contact with supporting units after accidentally coming across the Taliban in an Afghan village. Three of the members will be receiving Silver Stars for their heroic fight. They played a pivotal role in protecting the lives of their teammates. Those receiving the award included a Pararescue man and two Army special forces soldiers. The silver star is the third highest recognition in the United States for valor.
