US Special Operations Command gets first brand-new Chinook variant | Defense News

The new technological advancements include newly designed rollerblades, non-segmented fuel cells, huge changes to the drive system and higher capacities for loads and range. While the technology is some of the most advanced for the military force, the structure is still based on design from the 1960’s to 1980’s. The army originally planned to buy more than 500 models of the aircraft, but the service decided to cut the plans because of budget decisions. A decision was also decided to only use the model for special operations rather than all active forces.
