Iraq War hero Alwyn Cashe should get Medal of Honor, Esper says | Military Times

Almost 15 years after Alwyn Cashe lost his life in Iraq while rescuing his fellow soldiers burning vehicle, the Pentagon may award him the Medal of Honor. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper has informed House Representatives that he is going to recommend the award for Cashe. He was awarded the Silver Star for his heroic efforts and continued to pull men out of the vehicle set ablaze from a roadside bomb even after the fire had burned off his body armor and uniform. Army officials previously said Cashe’s actions did not merit him receiving the Medal of Honor because it had not taken place in active combat.
