The U.S. Army 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) “Night Stalkers” flown a little known NOTAR variant of the MH-6J. The variant has a quieter and safer operation over a traditional tail rotor. Two MH-6J airframes were converted to NOTAR configuration: #25356 and #23650. The NOTAR was developed by McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Systems. These hybrid variants went through formal testing, flight, and mission training but failed to meet the requirements for the 160th. Today, these were converted to Little Birds and put back into service as MH-6Js.
