The United States has a base in Kenya that was once thought of as more of a temporary shifting base, however, now has evidence that the base is being used for surveillance in neighboring Somalia. Particularly, against the terrorist group Al Shabab. Private contractors are being hired in the military to provide intelligence on when to and where to airstrike. According to U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) this is completely legal and customarily used by many nations.
