A horned, herbivorous dinosaur, Centrosaurus apertus, was discovered and first to be diagnosed among dinosaurs to have an aggressive malignant bone cancer called Osteosarcoma. The research is a collaboration of Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) and McMaster University. It was originally thought to represent a healing fracture in the dinosaur’s fibula but was confirmed and examined to be cancer using modern medical techniques like CT scan. The discovery aims to establish a new standard for the diagnosis of unclear diseases in dinosaur fossils and provide insight between the connection of human diseases and the diseases of the past.
