GNA head Fayez al-Sarraj announced on its Facebook page, “issued instructions to all military forces to immediately cease fire and all combat operations in all Libyan territories.” Libya has been in war since Col Muammar Gaddafi was deposed by Nato-backed forces in 2011. The truce was also agreed by the UN and Egypt’s President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi as well as Aguila Saleh, speaker of the eastern-based parliament allies of Gen Haftar. Despite continued oil-export blockade and tensions between rival forces, the decision raised hope for the country’s never-ending war for a decade.
