Police spokesman Khan announced five Pakistani counterterrorism commandos and two suspected militants were killed in a raid on a militant hideout in northwestern Pakistan on July 28. It happened in a house in the village of Roni in the Chilas district and along with the two militants killed, weapons and explosives were recovered. A group of villagers protested in the killing of what they called “innocent civilians” where they temporarily blocked the Karakoram Highway. The Pakistani Taliban — the Tehreek-e Taliban Pakistan and the IS affiliate continues to be a threat to both Pakistan and Afghanistan.
