Brrrrr! Navy to conduct small-boat operations in the Arctic | Navy Times

Three-week long Operation Nanook will be conducted in the frigid waters of the Arctic Circle. The guided-missile destroyer, Thomas Hurdner, will be used and part of the operation are RHIBs, will launch from the warship. The US Navy has been preparing specialized training and gear that can be honed over experience from threats with China and Russia eyeing the Arctic at a time when global warming has made the area more accessible. The Navy “must be experts in operating on our northern flank,” Vice Adm. Andrew Lewis, commander of U.S. 2nd Fleet said.
