A prison breakout initiated by militants affiliated with the Islamic State group in eastern Afghanistan left at least 39 people dead. At least 10 of the dead were ISIS militants involved in the assault to free their 400 comrades from the prison in Jalalabad. Of the five prisoners killed by the militants, at least three were members of the Taliban, showing the tensions between the two factions. Afghan forces were able to drive the terrorist militants back before the prisoners were released.
