Congress is giving the crew of the USS Indianapolis the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honor they can bestow. The USS Indianapolis crew in WWII helped deliver the components that would contribute to the first nuclear bomb called the “Little Boy.” On the way back from delivering the materials the ship was hit by Japan and over 800 of the crew members died as a result.
