Our expectations on an outcome are dependent on how we perceive it. Optimism and pessimism are judgmental biases that make for poor decisions, leading to worse outcomes and lower wellbeing. Though many motivational speakers and life coaches have greatly implied the benefits of positive thinking, research shows that plans based on inaccurate beliefs are bound to deliver worse outcomes than rational and realistic beliefs. To make a sound decision, we have to take realistic, accurate, and unbiased information into consideration.
