Man pleads guilty to faking SEAL service, POW status and PTSD for $300,000 in VA benefits | Military Times

Multiple fraud accounts are being charged against Richard Meleski, a 58-year-old man from Pennsylvania. He claimed a false identity as a former Navy SEAL and prisoner of war with PTSD in order to receive $300,000 VA benefits. He also falsely claimed to have received the Silver Star for SEAL heroism in his disability benefits application. Meleski pointed out that “he supposedly suffered during an armed conflict in Beirut in which he rescued injured service members,” according to the department. The schedule of his sentence is yet to be announced.
