The USS Newport was on deployment supporting maritime interests and defending the country under the leadership of Cmdr. Dave Fassel. The ship traveled over 45,000 nautical miles throughout their completed deployment. This deployment in particular was different because COVID-19 hit right in the middle of it. The crew made a pit stop to isolate themselves but still provided logistical support and ensured readiness. Families are now happy to be reunited with their family members during this hard time.
