While the policy did not specifically state the ban of the Confederate flag it made it clear that it would not be acceptable to fly. There has been a lot of debate about the use of memorializing the Confederacy on public property. Many argue that it is a right to free speech while others argue it is a symbol of hate. President Donald Trump has been against renaming bases with Confederate leaders’ names and he has stated that he believes that displaying the flag is free speech.
