Job postings are still far below February’s level despite a recent uptick, which shows why unemployment benefits have to be extended past July | Business Insider

Nearly 49 million Americans filed unemployment claims due to the economic effects of the ongoing pandemic. According to the Federal Job Openings and Labor Turnover survey, there was a significant drop in job postings of about 23% compared to February, and down by 24.7% relative to this time last year. The retail and driving industry have seen the most significant improvement in job opportunities as businesses slowly reopen while taking precautionary measures for their customers and employees. However, highly paid workers are having a difficult time rebounding due to the additional time and compensation required to hire them during this unprecedented time. The $600 federal bonus to state-level unemployment is expected to expire by the end of July.
