Marine Corps Criminal Investigators are required by the Marine Corps to be armed with a concealable pistol when on duty in civilian attire. Though the M9, or Baretta M9, is the standard service pistol of U.S. Armed Forces, their preferences changed over time where the Glock19 satisfied the need for a more concealable handgun. With a lighter weight and more than an inch shorter and more than three-tenths of an inch narrower than the M9, elite units saw a need for a pistol with a bit more stopping power.
