BeiDou: China launches final satellite in challenge to GPS | BBC News

China has recently released the last satellite in their initiative to provide global navigation coverage. BeiDou-3 makes it possible for China to longer rely on the United States for their GPS system. The original launch was supposed to occur last week but got postponed due to technical difficulties. Chine and the U.S. have rising tensions and this might be a threat to the U.S. space exploration initiative which is one of the best in the world. China has been working on this technology for the past 20 years and hopes to build a space base and send a rover to Mars.
