Who was Roy Benavidez, the man whose name some say should replace Confederate general’s at Fort Hood? | Dallas News

Fort Hood might be renamed after Roy Benavidez, a medal honor recipient, a green beret, and a heroic soldier. Currently the base is named after a Confederate soldier with a reputation for allegedly being reckless. Domingo Garcia, the national president of the League of United Latin American Citizens, claims that he was also a traitor. Garcia believes that Benavidez provides a better reflection on America and could represent soldiers from all backgrounds.
