Most and least expensive states for retirement 2020 | 401(k) Specialist

401(k) Specialist has mapped out a study that ranks each state and Washington DC according to retirement capabilities in 2020. While some states are more obvious than others, there were a few surprises. The most expensive state was Hawaii, with $1,844,556 needed to retire. New York, Oregon, California, and Alaska were also at the top of the list, all needing over $1,300,000 to retire. The least expensive state is Mississippi, with an average of $617,661 needed. Tennessee, Alabama, and Oklahoma were also at the bottom of the list, all requiring less than one million to retire, with Washington DC coming in at exactly $1 million.
