The months-long stalemate in Afghanistan will be coming to an end as Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and his rival Abdullah Abdullah have signed a power-sharing deal. Abdullah will also be heading up peace talks with the Taliban. Photos have also been released showing the two men sitting next to each other for the ceremony where numerous political figures were in attendance, such as former president Hamid Karzai. President Ghani has stated that it was a historic day in Afghan history and that the agreement was reached without any international mediation. “We will share the burden and our shoulders, God willing, will be lighter,” Ghani commented.
