Every year, the Army invades our greatest enemy, North Carolina | AV Club

In 1947 Operation Robin Sage was implemented in the fictional country of Pineland in North Carolina. The yearly training exercise is carried out by Green Berets and acts as role playing scenarios where the soldiers work to train local forces to overthrow an oppressive government. Nearly 100 special forces candidates are included, as well as over 400 soldiers and civilian actors who are involved in the training. However, in 2002 a real police officer pulled over two soldiers and a civilian actor. Unaware that Operation Robin Sage was going on, the three men believed this was part of the training. The encounter resulted in the officer shooting both of the soldiers after a scuffle when he found their service weapon and they attempted to bribe him with fake currency, unaware that the officer was not involved.
