The U.S. Marine Corps will be proving more support in the Western Pacific after it announced a new Marine Littoral Regiment is being formed. The regiment will be based in Hawaii and will become experts in ship-to-shore capabilities in austere conditions. This can include sinking ships using missiles shot from unmanned vehicles similar to Humvees. Additional new littoral regiments could be formed in Japan and Guam, but the first one in Hawaii is set to have 1,800 to 2,000 Marines carved out from existing battalions. The 3rd Marines headquarters will also be re-designated as the 3rd Marine Littoral Regiment headquarters.
