As Russia is using abandoned U.S. bases in Syria to fight ISIS and the U.S. is still engaging them in Iraq and other countries, many are wondering when the fight with ISIS will be over. Both the U.S. and Russia have reported that ISIS was almost completely destroyed numerous times throughout history, and often at different intervals. “All ISIS gangs on Syrian territory have been destroyed and the territory itself has been liberated,” stated President Putin in December 2017. These numerous claims lead many to ask if ISIS is defeated, and which country should receive the most credit? Overall, it is clear that efforts by both countries have been successful in eliminating many ISIS fights and infrastructure, but the terror organization is not completely destroyed.
