From loss of smell to ‘COVID toes’: What experts are learning about symptoms | NPR News

When the coronavirus first began to spread throughout the U.S, officials warned people to be on the lookout for the major symptoms, such as a fever, cough, and shortness of breath. As the virus began to infect more people worldwide however, public health officials and researchers began to develop a firmer grasp on what the coronavirus symptoms could actually look like. ā€œWe’re getting a better understanding of how these symptoms express in the general population and not necessarily in hospitalized patients,” commented Charitini Stavropoulou, an associate professor in health services research at City, University of London. Some of these other symptoms include loss of smell, loss of taste, and ā€˜COVIDā€™ toes, a newer condition that makes your toes appear red or purple.
